Looking beyond soccer

SPORTEX has hit the ground running, enlisting sports codes beyond soccer to form part of the school holidays’ season.

SPORTEX has hit the ground running, enlisting sports codes beyond soccer to form part of the school holidays’ season.

Co-ordinator, Nakedi Baloyi, said engagements were ongoing with stakeholders within the sporting codes of karate and boxing.

He said the cultural sector was also being enlisted to add a different flavour to the holidays fun.

These would include gumboot dance, modelling, poetry, and music.

The meeting with the stakeholders was held at Mmapatile Primary School on Saturday 4 August.

“We heard at the meeting that soccer alone was not enough to absorb youngsters during the holiday games,” he said.

SPORTEX is a non-profit organisation with the objectives to remove kids from the streets during school holidays.

Among those who attended the meeting was Jonas Mngomezulu of Genesis Modelling Agency.

Famous dancer and producer Johannes “Matrata” Chauke was also in attendance.

Baloyi said any other groupings wishing to take part can contact him on 0836372206.
