Limpopo under-21 team walks tall

The Limpopo under-21 national soccer squad – featuring no less than six players from the Waterberg – walked tall on the occasion of the recent SAB under-21 Championships held in the KwaZulu-Natal capital of Durban.

The Limpopo under-21 national soccer squad – featuring no less than six players from the Waterberg – walked tall on the occasion of the recent SAB under-21 Championships held in the KwaZulu-Natal capital of Durban.

The championships were staged from Tuesday 17 July to Sunday 22 July.

The Class of ’18 broke the provincial record by becoming the first such squad to reach the semi-finals during the annual event.

The Limpopo under-21 boys fought all the way into the semis, until the boys were knocked out of the competition by a determined North West Province under-21 squad.

The match ended 4-0 in favour of the North West at the end of regulation time.

In the first match, the Limpopo side beat the University Sport South Africa Academy (USSA) 2-1, and went on to beat the Western Cape select team 2-1.

USSA went on to beat the Mpumalanga under-21 squad 2-1 to lift the trophy.

A total of six players from the Waterberg were part of the Limpopo under-21 squad, namely Lehlogonolo Shibambo and Sello Moropa from Modimolle Junior Stars FC, Segagapeng FC goal-minder, Mpho

Kekana, David Nyamane and Robert Mkhumane from Mosesetjane FC and Jan Baloyi from Modimolle Peacemakers FC.

Limpopo under-21 team manager, Raymond Mdaka, expressed his satisfaction with the overall performances of the boys.
