Outgoing MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture in Limpopo, Onicca Moloi, has resigned under controversial circumstances.

The ANC political heavyweight recently took to social media, bemoaning the fact that she did not make the cut into the recently-elected Limpopo ANC Provincial leadership.

In an unprecedented move, she posted her letter of resignation on Facebook, before sending formal correspondence to Premier Stan Mathabatha.

Spokesperson in the Office of the Premier, Kenny Mathivha, said Mathabatha has had no time to apply his mind on the matter, as he was held up with both the conference and the funeral of the
late Agriculture and Rural Development MEC, Joyce Mashamba.

“We saw a Facebook resignation and unfortunately an MEC is never appointed on Facebook,” Mathivha said in a WhatsApp message.

On Tuesday 3 July, Mathivha released a statement confirming that the premier accepted Moloi’s resignation with immediate effect.

“Although we wished her to stay longer, we wish her good luck in her future endeavours and hope she will perform her duties with the same energy she did when deployed in government,” said the
premier.

MEC for Treasury, Rob Tooley, was appointed as acting MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture until such time the position is filled permanently.
