Bela-Bela will be hosting very popular triathlon again

Following a successful event in 2017, the Standard Bank 5150 African Triathlon Series will be back in Bela-Bela for the eighth consecutive year and will be hosted on Saturday 4 August at Forever Resorts.

The course is deemed as one of the favourites in the series due to Bela-Bela always offering a Bushveld experience like no other; including perfect race conditions.

Widely regarded as an ideal introduction into competitive triathlon, the August triathlon will start with a 1.5 km swim in the resort’s ski dam, followed by a 40 km bike on the hilly Alma Road and finishes with a 10 km run through the resort.

In addition to the Olympic distance, there is another event known as the FUNTRI.

The FUNTRI is a shorter distance, specificly designed to give triathlon novices and anyone with an interest in the sport a glimpse into what the pro’s are all about.

This course will feature a 400 m swim, 20 km bike and 5 km run, which will be held on the same day.

Athletes 14 years and older and teams of two to three people are allowed to enter this race.

The organizers are thrilled that local and international athletes will get a kick out of the coming bushveld held triathlon.

“We are delighted to continue to run this event as it grows our triathlon family. The spirit and camaraderie at these Olympic and FUNTRI distances are fantastic and is the perfect setting for anyone to try the sport,” said Keith Bowler, managing director of Ironman South Africa.

Entries for the 5150 are now open.
