In the beginning of July the Auditor General (AG) released municipal audit results under the theme, “Not much to go around, yet not the right hands at the till.”
Kimi Makwetu, the AG, warned that the value of the report should be about how firm steps are going to be taken to restore the integrity of municipal institutions and place them in a position to manage their finances towards the achievement of citizens’ needs.
My comment on this is that I know that it is not God’s ultimate plan that municipalities stay forever in ruin. I have worked for three different municipalities — Bela-Bela, Polokwane and Madibeng (Brits) — for 15 years and I have thorough knowledge of the financial management process of municipalities.
I am reminded of a passage in the Bible, Nehemia 2:4-6, which states that a person/persons be tasked to rebuild a city. Tata Nelson Mandela also said that sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. “You be that generation. Let your greatness blossom. Of course the task will not be easy. But not getting involved would be a crime against humanity, against which I ask all humanity now to rise up.”
I righteously believe that I am amongst the people of this generation whom our Heavenly Father groomed and made available, at the right time, to restore the integrity of municipalities and eventually be placed in a position to manage the finances towards the achievement of citizens’ needs.
I am currently engaging God-fearing residents of Bela-Bela for the purpose of registering a political party for the next local municipal elections in 2021.
We can rebuild the municipality together. A municipality that will be governed by competent, capable mayors and councillors with wisdom, expertise, skills, ability and selflessness.
