Local authorities should act responsibly — once more

The municipality are standing on the brink of the summer holiday season, where thousands of people will flock to Bela-Bela to spend their holidays which will bring a much needed cash injection to the economy of our town.

With reference to Daleen Steynberg’s letter in The Post on Friday 23 November, the following:

I fully agree with what she is (trying) to tell the Bela-Bela Municipality. They are standing on the brink of the summer holiday season, where thousands of people will flock to Bela-Bela to spend their holidays. This will bring a much needed cash injection to the economy of our town.

I want to add to her list of complaints, the R516 road (between Bela-Bela and Settlers). It is in a sad state of neglect. The authorities took out a piece of the tar surface to replace it but, alas, seven weeks later nothing was done! The pothole has grown due to wear and tear of heavy traffic and it is no longer a pothole but a road hazard. My vehicle was damaged and I lost a front rim and tyre. This pothole is not an isolated hazard, but is part of many ever enlarging potholes over many kilometres.

The authorities responsible for this road are leaving a bad after taste with motorists.
