New principal at Maokeng Primary School

The Maokeng Primary School in Phagameng, Modimolle, has appointed Esther Sambo as the school principal, after serving as acting principal in 2020.

Sambo was a mathematics educator for Grd 7’s at Maokeng Primary School for the last 15 years.

The Post spoke to the new principal regarding practical solutions offered by the school to assist learners with online studies for the days they are not attending school.

Sambo said: “The teachers are downloading teaching presentations, which we then e-mail to the learners, or make available to them on compact disks for those without internet access. To further assist learners, we have a mobile phone solution for those learners who do not have access to laptops or computers.

They pay R32 once-off for a starter pack and R22 worth of airtime. The Sim-card is included in the starter pack and learners from Grd 1 to 7 will be able to cover their respective curriculums with this application as we progress through the years’s work. This year will still be a challenging year for learners, their parents, and our teachers,” Sambo said.

The school is already at full capacity at approximately 1 400 learners, even though they are expecting more learners to enrol this week.

Maokeng Primary School is one of five primary schools in the Phagameng township facing the same challenges with limited resources and overcrowded classrooms.
