Ditch the classroom and head outside

Say goodbye to the classroom and get wise outside!

The Partners for Possibility (PfP) in the Waterberg region is inviting all schools to join them during the global outdoor classroom day on Thursday 7 November.

The PfP programme partners eight school principals each with a business leader in their community.

Together they will complete a 150 hour programme over the course of a year to the benefit of both.

According to Brenda Scrooby, Learner Process Facilitator, the global campaign believes that time outdoors is critical to children’s development.

The eight schools participating in the Modimolle PfP is joining thousands of schools from across the globe and getting learners outdoors.

The schools taking part are Mokolo Primary School in Vaalwater, Lotamang Combined School in Mookgophong, Raeleng Secondary School in Bela-Bela, Makhutjisha High School in Mookgophong, Maope Secondary School in Bela-Bela, Hector Peterson Primary School in Modimolle, Solomon Mahlangu High School in Modimolle and Lekkerbreek Primary School in Modimolle.

“The global campaign aims to inspire and celebrate outdoor learning and play. As well as having fun, schools can show how important it is to make children more aware of their environment and how easy it is to give children more time outdoors in structured lessons. This should not only occur on Outdoor Classroom Day but all year round,” she said.

Scrooby said that it is important that schools register as this is the only way to keep count of global learner participation.

The website outdoorclassroomday.co.za has a library of outdoor lesson ideas that can be accessed for free.
