Waterberg Academy reaps the benefit

Excellent achievements at Waterberg Academy at Vaalwater seems to be the norm and once more learners are top achievers.

The Academy has surpassed its own best by obtaining the best matric results to date. The class of 2018 consisted of ten learners. A 100% pass rate was obtained and 90% of the learners obtained a Bachelors Certificate pass.

The head girl of 2018, Lucy Calcott, was the top achiever and obtained seven distinctions. Lucy’s results was of such a level that she reached the Independent Examination Board (IEB) list of top 5% for six of her subjects. This is a remarkable achievement.

The IEB is an independent assessment agency which offers examination for various client schools, mostly private schools.

To highlight Lucy’s performance, her results in five of her subjects were among the top 1% of the IEB-list.

A delighted Lucy said she is taking a gap year and is still deciding on her future.

Only 61 learners of 41 schools made the list of top performers.

Another learner with excellent results, is Nadja Nortjé. She obtained six distinc-tions. Nadja was accepted at the Medical School of the University of the Witwa-tersrand (Wits).

Three other learners obtained one distinction each and brings the total to 16 distinctions from 10 candidates.

Mark Godfrey, principal, said that the 2018 group did him proud and Waterberg Academy is excited about the prospects of the upcoming grades.
