Residents and loved ones will bid a sad goodbye to Piet Jansen (80) on Friday 19 July, after he recently passed away in hospital.

“He was so active for his age and had so many plans for the future. Few people believed that he was eighty years old,” said his fiancée, Fiona Strong. The couple have been together for more than twenty years.

“He had a great love for golf and loved the Koro Creek Golf Course. His farewell will also be held there.”

According to Strong, Jansen had a stroke and spent more than two weeks in hospital. “We had such high hopes that he would recover, abut he had another stroke after which he passed away,” she said.

“It was very unexpected, as we hoped that he would improve.”

The couple has been residents of Modimolle for more than eight years. Jansen hailed from Pelgrim’s Rest and Pretoria.

“He has always been involved in mining and had several businesses supplying products to the mining industry until 2007,” said Strong.

Jansen also owned the popular restaurant in the Bosveldsig Centre, La Brousse, which opened its doors in August 2022.

“We’ve decided to close La Brousse down before Piet became ill,” said Strong.

He leaves behind his fiancée Fiona Strong and children Vandy Louw, and step-children Carmen Keenan, Jeremy Strong and Ceri Strong.
