On Sunday 26 May at approximately 21:20, the police arrived at the scene, after a report of a human body lying on the road outside Bela-Bela was received. An unidentified African female was found lying on the R101 road near Klein Kariba.

The woman seemed to be in her early 40s and was naked, except for a pair of Ellesse Monza sports shoes she was wearing. She also had a wedding ring on her finger. She had serious head injuries and was unconscious. The Emergency Medical Services were contacted and she was transported to Bela-Bela Provincial Hospital for treatment. She passed away at 07:00 on Monday 27 May, without regaining consciousness.

Her identity is still unknown. A culpable homicide case was opened and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. At this stage, it is still unknown how the woman ended up in the road, or how she sustained her injuries.

The police are appealing to the public for any information that might assist in identifying the deceased.
