Coming together to clean Mokopane

Members of a church congregation in Mokopane came together and decided to make a concerted effort to give the town a well-needed clean-up. They reached out to different stakeholders and were delighted with the support.

More than 100 residents gathered at the Thabo Mbeki and Geyser Street intersection on Saturday, 17 February, for a joint cleanup effort as part of the Love My Mokopane movement.

Ona Ramapulana, a Grd 5 learner from Mokopane Destiny Academy, shared: “I joined Love My Mokopane-project because I love our town and take pride in cleaning it.”

The Love My Mokopane movement, led by Destiny Alive Church in collaboration with Mokopane Destiny Academy since its inception in 2016, aims to instill a sense of ownership and responsibility for the environment among residents, fostering a cleaner and more uplifting town for all to enjoy.

Martin Brits and Attie Goosen joined forces at the cleanup event on Saturday, emphasising the power of collective action to create positive change in Mokopane.

Since its inception, the movement has garnered increasing support from volunteers across diverse sectors, including the Mokopane Business Chamber, local community churches, and learners from local schools such as Mokopane English Combined School.

The cleanup on 17 February kicked off this year’s efforts, with monthly events planned, including the next clean-up on Saturday 16 March 2024. Everyone in the community, young and old, is encouraged to join the movement by connecting through the Love My Mokopane Facebook page or WhatsApp at tel. 082 872 6310.
