Modimolle-Mookgophong Councilor Rufus Mahoro chose to spend his birthday with senior citizens of Modimolle, on Tuesday 10 March.

The celebrations started at the Old Age Centre in Phagameng, where Mahoro enjoyed his special day with the elderly.

At the old age centre, the elderly were joined by among others, the leadership of the African National Congress, officials from the Department of Social Development, Victim Support Centre staff, Organisation Hands On
leadership and also leaders from various churches.

Mahoro was accompanied by her aunt Sarah Makwela and her sister Lenah Mahoro.

Speaker after speaker hailed Mahoro as a person who is devoted to serving his community, and always willing to sacrifice his own time to go beyond the call of duty.

His colleague Patrick Mashaba described him as an energetic person, who also enjoys interacting with others to hear their grievances and help where possible.

Modimolle Victim Support Centre programme manager, Catherine Moropa, described Mahoro as a visionary leader who had the interest of the community at heart, especially children and the elderly.

Former mentor at the Department of Social Development, Nkele Mapodile, said he was a good listener who always remained humble.

Members of the audience responded with loud cheers and applause, when ANC leader Seraka Mapeka said Mahoro emulated the late former president, Nelson Mandela.

In-between the speeches, the charismatic programme director Thedi Matlala left the audience in stitches with his rich humour.
