The police in Modimolle are on a manhunt for a middle-aged suspect wanted on several charges of fraud.

The police said in a statement the suspect was recently traced to a hideout in the North West town of Brits on Monday 2 March, but managed to escape.

The alleged fraudulent transactions were committed in the Modimolle policing area and in Gauteng between September 2011 and February 2019, according to an official statement.

Limpopo SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, said the suspect allegedly defrauded farmers of an undisclosed amount of money.

“He allegedly pretended to be selling lucerne bales to farmers in the drought stricken areas for additional animal feed for their livestock. He insisted on a hefty deposit to be paid with each transaction and thereafter
vanished without delivering the products,” Mojapelo explained.

He said the suspect is also facing three other fraud cases which were allegedly committed in Modimolle and Randburg, and a case of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm in the village of Modjadjiskloof in the
most northern region of Limpopo.

“The police are requesting Stefanus Gerhardus (Stefan) Muller aged 32, to avail himself at Modimolle Police Station or at the nearest police station to assist with investigations in this matter,” the statement said.

Anyone with information that can lead to the apprehension of the suspect or knows his whereabouts is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Amanda Rossouw on 071 133 8524 or the Crime stop number 0860010111 or contact the nearest police station.

Police investigations are still continuing.
