Home Affairs client in distress

A man from Bela-Bela has visited The BEAT’s offices twice this month, complaining about the treatment the Department of Home Affairs has allegedly meted out to him, since he applied for his ID card.

Koos Molekoa said he had since applied for an ID in October 2019 and has not yet received it.

He alleged that he was sent from pillar to post by officialdom.

“I went to the department’s Modimolle offices four times already and they always tell me they are investigating. I received the same answer when I engaged their head office as well. I called them again on Monday 24 February and they said they were still investigating,” Molekoa said.

He lamented the fact that a lack of a valid ID has thrown his life into disarray.

The BEAT contacted the head of the

department’s office in Modimolle, Nomvuyo Nqotyana, who confirmed that Molekoa was not the only one who has not yet received his ID since applying.

“We discovered that all ID cards that were applied for on that day got lost before they could reach our offices and investigations have since been launched. We are still waiting to hear the outcomes of the investigations from our head office as soon as they are done,” Nqotyana said.

She has since promised to see to it that Molekoa gets issued a temporary ID for free.

“But we can issue him temporary ID for free, he can only bring photos. Yes, I told him this but I am also following the issue with my head office,” she added.
