Bela-Bela Municipality concerned at damaged power pylons

The Bela-Bela Local Municipality has blamed human error at the sudden power supply interruptions in Bela-Bela in recent weeks.

The Bela-Bela Local Municipality has blamed human error at the sudden power supply interruptions in Bela-Bela in recent weeks.

The municipality confirmed that a motorist drove into the power pylons on Sunday 16 February, which caused power supply disruptions, affecting parts of the town and township.

On the day in question, a commercial vehicle smashed into the power pylons, resulting in what the municipality described as serious damage.

The municipality’s technicians have since restored electricity supplies to affected areas.

Municipal spokesperson, Kabelo Mosito, said that it was not the first time such an incident happened.

He said the municipality would like to urge motorists to be careful and considerate when driving through the streets.

“Over-speeding, reckless and negligent driving may result in disastrous situations. We are still quantifying the total amount of damages at the moment and we will institute a civil claim,” he explained.
