A resident of Modimolle was arrested after the police learned of dagga plants valued at an estimated amount of R300 that he had at his home.

The plants exceeded the legal personal use content.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer James Findlay, said the police made the discovery on Tuesday 4 February. The suspect resides at a shack in Extension 8 in Phagameng.

Crime Prevention Unit members Constables Olive Mahlaola and William Baloyi, together with Lieutenant-Colonel Michael Motadi, arrested the suspect.

Findlay said that on arrival at the police station the suspect was charged with cultivation of dagga and he admitted guilt, paying a fine of R200 and avoided an appearance before the local magistrate’s court.

He added that a criminal case sticks regardless of the suspect having paid a fine.
