A rape suspect made life easy for the police when he was found fast asleep on his victim’s bed.

The suspect was expected to appear before the Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court early in the week.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the 26-year-old suspect was arrested soon after allegedly raping a 52-year-old woman on the night of Sunday 2 February.

The incident happened at an informal settlement.

It is alleged the victim was sleeping alone in her room when the suspect allegedly broke in and sexually violated her.

Soon after the alleged culprit dozed off, the victim reporting the matter to the police.

Ngoepe said the police reacted swiftly and arrested the suspect while still sleeping on the victim’s bed.

He added that preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect was once arrested and sentenced to six months imprisonment for housebreaking and theft.

Investigations are still in progress.

Meanwhile, the Limpopo Department of Social Development reported that MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale will visit the victim’s family this week.

Departmental spokesperson, Witness Tiva, said social workers have since been dispatched to the family for counselling purposes.
