Hoёrskool Warmbad makes the top three list

Hoёrskool Warmbad’s Christian Vosloo made the district top three list, achieving six distinctions with average 85.86%. This was announced during the Waterberg District 2019 Matric Awards Ceremony that was held at Bela-Bela Forever Resorts on Friday 17 January.

The Waterberg District was divided into two regions: Mogalakwena and Waterberg 2 for the awards ceremonies. This was to accommodate educational roleplayers from different institutions, sector
department representatives and the parents of learners.

Vosloo was placed third, following Hoёrskool Ellisras’s Johanna Voster from Lephalale, who obtained seven distinctions with 86.71% overall. The top learner was Hoёrskool Frikkie Meyer’s Miné
Lategan from Thabazimbi. The learner obtained a total of seven distinctions with a 89.5% average.

The overall best learner emerged from Waterberg High School in Mokopane, named Puseletso Mashaba. The learner obtained six distinctions with 90.3% average. In Mogalakwena District a total of 3457 learners wrote exams, with 2368 passing with 68.5%.

A total of 794 entries to bachelors were obtained, to diplomas 916 and 663 to higher certifacates.

In overall, Waterberg District saw a total of 2 314 learners writing exams in 2019, with 1 884 passing (81.42%) and 430 failing (18.58%). A total of 787 bachelors were obtained, with diplomas
sitting at 683 and 400 higher certificates.

There is an increase of 8.22 % from the 2018 results. The district obtained position two at the provincial level. Learners, schools and circuits which represented Waterberg at the provincial
awards were declared district ambassadors.

There is also a circuit with over 500 learners in the district and a school with 50 or more candidates representing the district at the provincial level.

The District Executive Mayor Morris Mataboge applauded all who put the district on the map, by obtaining good pass rates during the 2019 matric results. He also indica-

ted that the Office of the Executive Mayor is assisting learners from disadvantaged families within the district with bursaries for registration at institutions of higher learning only.

Special thanks were further directed at the two district directors; Pastor Julia Madela and Mr. Ndo Mangala, for working tirelessly in transforming the education system in the two districts.

“You made us proud and we wish you the best wherever you go. Hard work always pays,” Mataboge said.

“To the class of 2019: your hard work has paid off. We are here today in our numbers because we believed in you and you believed in yourselves,” he added.
