Leaving me mama?

Boys and girls in mixed emotions for Grade R

It was a memorable day once again when mommy’s boys and girls were enrolled for the first day of school all-round on Wednesday 15 January.

At Mmamakwa Primary School in Bela-Bela, The BEAT observed that it was only the male species who threw toys out of the cot, with the girls conducting themselves with absolute dignity and pride.

Star of the show (tongue-in-cheek) at the latter school was a little fellow – splendid in a red T-shirt and black shorts – who had to be restrained by educators, after he tearfully broke from a
group of Grade Rs at morning assembly, crying for his mom.

The other learners in the background looked likewise sombre, with at least one little boy pulling faces at the camera.

Following a flood of tears before morning assembly, the boy Lethabo Letsoalo (5), grudgingly agreed to pose for a picture, looking cool in a yellow T-shirt, black shorts, matching black shoes
and socks, against the backdrop of images drawn by his Grade R (2019) predecessors.

Brave little girl Nthabeleng Nchabeleng (5) volunteered to join a line-up of boys and girls posing for the photojournalist, staring at the camera with a half-smile (or is it half tears!).

Surprise … surprise! Dagbreek Primary School in Modimolle enrolled a set of 11 twins, tearful, cheerful and otherwise.

Three of the sets of twins are a boy and a girl.

The atmosphere at the latter school was largely relaxed, with some of the youngsters playful, especially after their parents had left for home.

The picture at Laerskool Warmbad was mostly also calm and relaxed.

Educator Anna Hlabela was photographed leading Neo Baloyi and Palesa Bodiba to their respective classrooms.

The little Palesa looked radiant, smiling, while Neo looked tense, but also somewhat brave.
