Charity organisations going back to school

As the schools open for the year 2020, the Modimolle-based non-profit organisations Ya Phophoma Foundation and Heaven’s Princess, were expected to embark on a back-to-school campaign.

The two organisations recently collaborated and hosted a charity carwash initiative, to raise funds to buy school uniforms for learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The founder of Ya Phophoma Foundation, Rufus Mahoro, said the organisers would use the first week of the schools’ reopening to identify learners who are in dire need of assistance.

“This is the time of the year when you will get to identify learners who do not have proper school uniforms or shoes. We could have opted for an easy way out, and handed over everything to the school, but we felt that it would serve more purpose to work with the schools, to identify children who desperately need help,” Mahoro said.

Mahoro said by visiting schools at this time of the year will help the organisations to provide the right sizes to the right beneficiaries.

He said members of the public are still urged to do their bit by contributing to the charitable exercise.

“We do not accept cash from the public. We will only accept school uniforms, shoes and all other types of clothes,” he told The BEAT.

Besides donating school uniforms, the organisations will also be donating after-school clothing to deserving families in and around Modimolle.

Members of the public who are willing to contribute to this cause can contact Rufus on 071 296 2682 or Boinette on 073 647 7791.
