Charity carwash a roaring success

The organisers of the Modimolle Charity Car Wash were left astonished after the event attracted many locals, who came to have their cars washed in support of the initiative.

The organisers of the Modimolle Charity Car Wash were left astonished after the event attracted many locals, who came to have their cars washed in support of the initiative.

The Modimolle-based non-profit organisations, Heaven’s Princess and the recently established Ya Phophoma Foundation, hosted the event to raise funds.

The collected money will be used to purchase school uniforms for less fortunate learners.

A total of 34 cars were washed during the introductory event, which served to launch the carwash initiative.

People from various parts of Modimolle pledged their continuous support for the organisers, as they aim to eradicate poverty in the community.

Theneki Mokwena of Ya Phophoma Foundation said they expected a positive response from the community, but the actual turnout exceeded their wildest estimation.

“We are delighted by the overwhelming support showed by our community. The carwash event showed us that our community cares about its own children,” he said.

Mokwena said the organisations were already working behind the scenes, organising the next event which will also be used as part of the fundraising programmes.

Kgaugelo Kamoi of Modimolle was among the locals who supported the good cause.

“I believe in giving and also helping those who are less fortunate than me. All of us must open our hearts and adopt the habit of giving and sharing,” she said.

Kamoi said from time to time, one must look around and lend a helping hand where it is needed.

Another local resident, Joseph Mongwe, commended the organisers and everybody who contributed.

Mongwe said the initiative will change the lives of many youngsters in the area.

He also suggested that the initiative be held on a regular basis, so that it can be able to benefit a lot more learners.
