Colonel Phetla leads from the front

Bela-Bela SAPS station commander, Colonel Abel Phetla, took it in his own stride when he arrested a housebreaking suspect along a downtown sidewalk.

Phetla said he spotted the suspect, who was known by the local police as a suspect in a number of housebreaking cases, carrying plastic bags full of items.

The senior cop said he confronted the suspect, who allegedly confessed that all of the items he carried were stolen in his home informal settlement of Koppewaai.

The suspect, who Phetla identified as Ben Maname, was expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Monday 2 December, following a brief appearance on Tuesday 19 November.
