Provincial roadshows kick-started

The Limpopo MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Basikopo Makamu, on Thursday 7 November kick-started her roadshow.

The Limpopo MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Basikopo Makamu, on Thursday 7 November kick-started her roadshow.

The roadshow was initially postponed indefinitely.

The MEC met Waterberg municipalities to discuss the state of local government.

The engagements in the Waterberg is part of Makamu’s roadshow to all the districts to touch base with municipalities and traditional authorities on successes, challenges and future prospects.

During the meeting with Waterberg municipalities, Makamu reported on a successful meeting held earlier with traditional leaders.

He urged municipalities to work with traditional authorities and support them in building social cohesion.

The MEC also decried the fact that the district and local municipalities are not doing well in curbing unauthorized, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

The provincial government roadshows were scheduled to kick-start in the Waterberg on Thursday 31 October, before being postponed.

Limpopo Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) spokesperson, Molebatsi Masedi, said the roadshows were postponed because of the increasing workload for MEC Basikopo Makamu.

The series of roadshows were set to take place throughout the province on different dates.

The Waterberg District Municipality’s Council Chamber was the original venue for kick-starting the roadshows.

Other districts were expected to host the roadshows throughout the month of November.

Masedi said new dates were to be announced shortly.

He said the visits are meant to engage leadership of municipalities and senior traditional leaders.
