The Modimolle-based township culture-inspired T-shirt and peak cap designer and now house music artist, Mpho Dominic Modau has proved to be a man of many talents, after being nominated for the Modimolle-Mookgophong Music Awards.

Initially, Modau was known for his brand “High Five” which was conceptualised locally.

The T-shirts and peak caps were popular among the locals, especially in Modimolle and the surrounding areas.

Known as Pops Mabottle in the music industry, the 22-year-old artist said he felt honoured to be nominated for his house music single alongside some of the finest musicians from near and far.

The Modimolle artist was nominated in the category, Best House Song, alongside the likes of Baldwin Kay, Lumicue and Mosquitos.

He told The BEAT he feels these awards will give emerging artists recognition across the province, and even beyond.

“Being nominated in this kind of awards where you are competing with artists from various levels of competence, makes one feel like we are on the same level,” he said.

The MMA’s gives all artists a fair opportunity to take home the honours, as the fans are the sole judges in terms of selecting the winners.

The event will be held at the OR Tambo Hall on Modimolle on Saturday, 7 December.

For more information on how to vote for their favourite artists, locals can go to the Modi-Mookgophong Music Awards on Facebook.
