Two suspects, a man and a woman, arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a lawnmower, were remanded in custody when they appeared before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Monday 11 November.

Bela-Bela police station commander, Colonel Abel Phetla, said the two were arrested on the afternoon of Thursday 7 November in the local township.

They were both traced following a tip-off from members of the community.

Phetla said the two suspects allegedly stole the lawnmower from a house in town, on Wednesday 6 November, and sold it in the township for R500.

He further said that the police have already taken the buyer’s statement, after arresting the suspects.

He said the owner of the lawnmower was identified as someone working in the garden services.

The suspects were remanded in custody, and were expected to appear before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Monday 18 November, on a charged of theft.
