A Nigerian national was arrested for the alleged possession and dealing in the CAT substance is expected back in court this week for formal bail application.

The suspect, Chibuzor Frank, was remanded in custody when he appeared before the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 7 November. The case was postponed when he made his first court
appearance on Monday 28 October.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Frans Maponya, said the suspect was found in possession of the drugs with a street value of R5 000 in the local township’s Moloto Street on the afternoon of
Thursday 24 October.

The suspect, who is in his 30s, has been denied bail since his first appearance.

The expensive CAT drug is normally targeted at the upper middle classes.

According to Google, CAT is the slang name given to the stimulant drug called methcathinone.

It can be snorted or inhaled and is highly addictive.

The side effects are similar to those of cocaine: it causes euphoria, increased alertness, anxiety, hallucinations, delusions and paranoia.

It is white in appearance and comes in powder form.

The drug usually sells for R200 to R250 per gram.

Like Tik, CAT also causes an intense psychological addiction.
