Police station has no transport issues

Bela-Bela police spokesperson Sergeant Frans Maponya on Monday 28 October confirmed that the local station does not have transport challenges.

Bela-Bela police spokesperson Sergeant Frans Maponya on Monday 28 October confirmed that the local station does not have transport challenges.

He was responding to a statement by the DA that a total of 24 police stations across Limpopo operate without a sufficient number of vehicles, among these Tuinplaas.

The DA’s Desiree Van Der Walt has urged the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Dickson Masemola, to urgently provide more police vehicles at the affected police stations.

“We have seen various attacks on farmers and farmworkers, high numbers of incidents of rape as well as poaching and stock theft. These (police) stations need adequate resources to respond to crime and be able to assist the community over vast distances,” she charged.

Van der Walt said there were similar problems in Thabazimbi, Maruleng, Bela-Bela, Ba-Phalaborwa, Greater Letaba and Tzaneen.

She said some of these police stations have to render policing services to over 40 villages.

“We need an honest, professional South African Police Service which fights crime without fear nor favour. The DA will be monitoring these stations to establish what other resources and support
they might need before we seek an urgent meeting with MEC Masemola,” she said.

In his response, Maponya said the Bela-Bela police station is not affected by the shortage of vehicles.
