DA plans to petition district mayor

The DA in Thabazimbi is planning to petition the Waterberg District Mayor Morris Mataboge.

The DA in Thabazimbi is planning to petition the Waterberg District Mayor Morris Mataboge.

DA Councillor in the Thabazimbi Local Municipality, Zanele Esply, said the petition is aimed at pressing home demands for the Waterberg District Municipality to allocate funds to fix the road
linking up the town with Brits and Rustenburg.

Esply said in a statement that the road is hazardous, worsened by potholes.

She said motorists are risking their lives while using these roads, especially for those who are driving at night.

“During an oversight inspection on this road, the DA noted that potholes cover between five to 10 kilometres of the road. Several trucks from the local mines use the road on a daily basis,” she
said.

The DA’s target is to canvas for upwards of 2 000 signatures from stakeholders, including local residents and motorists, who use the road on a regular basis.

In response the Waterberg District Municipality spokesperson, Pat Malete, said that the district’s main roads had since fallen under the jurisdiction of Roads Agency Limited, within the
Department of Public Works.
