Following a charity-driven campaign by the Modimolle based Makubenjalo Art Foundation, where three families were spoilt with a month’s supply of groceries, Councillor Rufus Mahoro called for
members of the community together with other stakeholders to join hands in ensuring that the needs of locals are addressed.

The initiative by Makubenjalo Art Foundation focused on addressing the day-to-day needs of child-headed families in Modimolle.

Mahoro said the campaign also served as a platform to identify other challenges which the families are faced with, ranging from issues related to identity documents, access to social grants and
lack of proper shelter.

“Our role is to be the link between these families and the relevant departments. Some of the children among the families we visited, do not have access to education and social grants due to the fact that their parents do not have identity documents,” he said.

He said the authorities will work closely with the affected families, to ensure that the children acquire birth certificates, so that they can be able to go to school.

Mahoro said in the future, such initiatives will be carried out with various departments to ensure efficiency in service delivery.

Makubenjalo Art Foundation Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tebogo Mlaza Ntsendwana, told The BEAT this was his foundation’s continued efforts to improve the lives of the community.

Ntsendwana said they felt the need to plough back into the community that has been supportive throughout the years.

“We started this programme by donating sanitary towels to young girls at local primary schools. In the second phase we identified child-headed families and helped them with groceries,”
Ntsendwana said.

He said the foundation was now moving into another phase, where they will be renovating houses of families that are in dire need for such assistance.
