Modimolle designer takes her creations to Gauteng

Modimolle fashion designer Portia Tjia was offered the platform to take her fashion creations to Hammanskraal in Gauteng.

She was part of designers arriving from various centres to showcase their fashion designs on Tuesday 24 September, as part of Heritage Day.

Tjia’s brand is affectionately known as Afroluhuru, founded exactly a year ago during the month of September in 2016.

Born and raised in the North West village of Borakallo, Tjia still regards herself as an emerging fashion designer, even though she has been at it since 2016.

“My love for sewing started at a very young age, back in primary school,” she said.

She said hers was a kind of humble beginnings when as little girls they were taught needlework.

Tjia said she was also a passionate practitioner of visual arts, a talent she combined with her sewing to produce her stunning creations.
