Home-grown go-getter and community-based activist Meshack Kekana has been accepted for a PhD in philosophy at the University of Pretoria.

Just last weekend The BEAT went for broke on the newspaper’s front page, after the Bela-Bela resident was named among the top 100 most employable university graduates.

Speaking about his acceptance for a Doctor of Philosophy endeavours on Tuesday 8 October, he said he would be completing it from next year onward, at the same time continuing with his community
work, such as the celebrated #100KidsToVarsity initiative.

The initiative offers career guidance to many school-leavers.

Kekana was in recent weeks recognised by the GradStar Awards, a programme that recognizes the Top 100 students across the country, based on leadership qualities and readiness for the workplace.

According to the GradStar Africa awards website, many of its top 100 recognised students attracted job offers from major employers.

Kekana was shortlisted from an incredible 6 000 entries drawn from across the country.

Kekana’s #100KidsToVarsity initiative has a total of 200 university student volunteers nationwide, and has thus far assisted a total of 1 000 students.
