ANC rejects Thabazimbi Speaker appointment

The ANC in the Waterberg has rejected the recent appointment of the new Speaker for the Thabazimbi Local Council, Thane Hearne.

The ANC in the Waterberg has rejected the recent appointment of the new Speaker for the Thabazimbi Local Council, Thane Hearne.

ANC Waterberg regional spokesperson, Matome Moremi, said during an interview with The BEAT on Tuesday 1 October, that his party rejected the appointment.

He accused the DA appointee as a “racist”.

Hearne was appointed to replace ward councillor Bertie Joubert, who has since resigned.

Moremi alleged that Hearne deliberately directed resources at the middle-class suburb of Koedoeskop, at the expense of the poor.

“We will not even bother to raise our hands in her support,” he said.

Meanwhile, the DA welcomed Hearne’s appointment, who was elected during a special council meeting held on Thursday 26 September.

DA political head for Thabazimbi, Desiree van der Walt, said Joubert resigned due to personal reasons and the party thanked him for the sterling job he did during his tenure.

“The DA is of the view that councillor Hearne will pick up where Joubert left off, and ensure that services are accelerated to the people of Thabazimbi,” she said.
