Thabazimbi Municipality will not respond on speaker’s resignation

Thabazimbi Local Municipality will not say anything to the media with regards to the recent resignation by the council speaker, the DA’s Bertie Joubert.

Thabazimbi Local Municipality will not say anything to the media with regards to the recent resignation by the council speaker, the DA’s Bertie Joubert.

This was according to municipal spokesperson Joshua Motsomane.

The resignation came to light following a statement released by the ANC Waterberg Regional Executive Committee.

The statement reads that the party welcomes Joubert’s resignation as the Speaker, and ward councillor of Ward 2.

ANC Waterberg regional spokesperson, Matome Moremi, said Joubert stated in his letter dated 12 September 2019 that he is resigning for personal reasons.

He said that the ANC will immediately make preparations in line with ANC guidelines and IEC regulations, ahead of anticipated by-elections in Ward 2.

Motsomane told The BEAT that the municipality will be in position to comment on the matter once a council meeting is held and the mayor, John Michael Fisher, was expected to release a statement on the matter.

“An official comment will be made then and a new speaker will be appointed after all logistics are followed, considering that the man was also a ward councillor,” Motsomane added.
