The Modimolle-Mookgophong municipality has decided to show mercy on electricity users who have not been paying for their consumption.

The Modimolle-Mookgophong municipality has decided to show mercy on electricity users who have not been paying for their consumption.

In order to ensure that all residents use electricity in a manner that is legitimate, the municipality has come up with a plan where residents who have not been using electricity according to
the laws, will be let off the hook only if they make use of this amnesty period.

The amnesty period commenced on Monday, 23 September and was expected to last until Monday 14 October.

“If you make use of the amnesty period, no questions will be asked as to why you are currently not paying for the service,” said the acting municipal manager Dr Shephard Mhlanga.

The municipality requests the residents who would like to be offered amnesty to provide their details then their meter boxes will either be repaired or replaced free of charge.

“All the municipality seeks to do is to ensure that going forward everyone pays for what they consume,” Mhlanga said.

Residents who do not take advantage of the amnesty period will face penalties.

The municipality has indicated that the amnesty registration points will be communicated through local media, ward councillors and ward representatives.

Residents are urged to register early as it is anticipated that a large portion of the community will make use of the amnesty period.
