Maope receives education on trees

Learners and staff members at Bela-Bela’s Maope Secondary School received education on tree-planting and indigenous plants.

Learners and staff members at Bela-Bela’s Maope Secondary School received education on tree-planting and indigenous plants.

This happened during the Arbor Week celebration event and a spring-cleaning campaign that was held on Wednesday 11 September on the school premises.

The Bela-Bela Local Municipality’s Environmental Health Department hosted the event and chose the school amongst all others in their campaign and donated 10 indigenous trees.

The donation was followed by a formal programme and a tree planting session.

Bela-Bela Local Municipality parks manager, Michael Suke, gave the keynote address on behalf of the authorities.

He encouraged the school to go green and consider greening by indigenous trees which are safe considering the water scarcity issue.

He also taught them how to plant trees and about the national tree, which changes regularly.

Chairperson of the School Governing Body, Mhlaba Ndlovu, also addressed the gathering and gave the vote of thanks.

The school management team led by principal, Magdaline Laka, and her deputy, Ramatsobane Mabuela joined the municipality team in facilitating the tree-planting ceremony.
