Maokeng Primary School celebrates achievements

It seems like everything Maokeng Primary School touches turns into gold, after bringing home four awards in four separate competitions, recently hosted by the Limpopo Department of Education.

It seems like everything Maokeng Primary School touches turns into gold, after bringing home four awards in four separate competitions, recently hosted by the Limpopo Department of Education.

The biggest prize of all was the achievement of Best Teacher’s Portfolio at the provincial level, where educator Makhaukane Beauty Boya brought home a trophy, certificate, a laptop, printer,
two backpacks and books.

Boya said the support from the school management including the teachers, the principal Jeanette Seema, deputy principal, Sebitse Jacobeth Monawa, and head of department (HOD) of Foundation
Phase, Maphuthego Segwapa, contributed towards her success in the competition.

“This is not my award. It belongs to the school because so many individuals played a part in ensuring that we achieve this,” she said.

Another achiever, educator Mafanato Rose Lebese, told The BEAT she was encouraged by her colleague Tshego Lepaku to enter for the National Teaching Awards (NTA).

Lebese obtained second position at the Waterberg District leg of the awards, where she was awarded a certificate and a trophy for Excellence in Primary School Teaching.

“If it was not for the support I received from my colleagues at the school, it would not have been possible to achieve this. I am now willing to share what I have learnt from this experience
with others, so they can be able to enter competitions like this one in the future,” she said.

Grade 2 learner, Mohau Motau, came out second in a separate competition, under the category Reading Aloud in Sepedi, while Kamogelo Chauke (Grade 6) obtained first position at the district
level of Spelling Bee competition.

Motau advanced to the provincial competition where she came out fourth.

The overjoyed Monawa said the teaching staff was delighted by these achievements and further indicated that they wish to go all the way to the national leg of the awards next year.

She said the quarterly enrichment programme held by the school is part of the reasons why the learners and educators are always motivated and ready to tackle any given competition.

Monawa also gave credit to all learners, teachers, the committee and the principal for the contribution.
