Hanging-out tourism is Kgothatso Malatjie’s speciality

Tour guide enthusiast Kgothatso Malatjie has carved himself a rare niche; hanging out in the vicinity of lodges, offering tourists a rare glimpse into his home Bela-Bela township.

Over and above, the 19-year-old tour guide has collected healthy tips by showing around tourists from one lodge to the other.

“For instance, if a lodge does not offer game drives, I would guide the interested tourists to the next lodge, for a generous tip,” he said.

Malatjie said he has already registered his Bela-Bela Tourism Service with the relevant tourism authorities.

In his spare time Malatjie said he collects literature on tourism and culture, distributing the books to local schools.

He has been on his hanging-out escapades for over a year.
