Blackout warning

Eskom is to effect power outages in Mookgophong

Power supplies are scheduled to be interrupted for 24 hours in Mookgophong between the early hours of Wednesday 14 August and Thursday 15 August.

Since the outage is expected to take place from 5:00 on Wednesday until 5:00 on Thursday, local residents, including the business community, have to find alternative ways to keep the home fires burning.

Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene van Staden said Eskom had initially intended to implement a 72-hour shutdown, but it was reduced down to 24 hours.

“Eskom will be replacing a faulty 132kV outdoor circuit breaker at the Tweekoppies main substation, in order to bring to an end those breakdowns that we had encountered from the past few months,” she said.

Van Staden explained the work on the substation would prevent a possible breakdown which might take appropximately a week or two to repair, should the circuit breaker fail or blow.

She said the 24-hour interrupted shutdown was absolutely necessary, in order to address issues that could cause interruptions in the future.

Modimolle-Mookgophong spokesperson, Patrick Shika, warned that residents should ensure that during the specified times off all electrical appliances are turned off.

He said in a case where notices have been issued beforehand, the municipality will not be held liable for any damages that may occur to electrical appliances.

The planned electricity outages as a result of the scheduled maintenance will affect the town of Mookgophong and all adjacent farmlands.
