Former Mookgophong mayor Sarah Monyamane has been elected chairperson of the Limpopo Legislature’s social development portfolio committee.

Former Mookgophong mayor Sarah Monyamane has been elected chairperson of the Limpopo Legislature’s social development portfolio committee.

The election was conducted during the legislature’ sitting on Thursday 11 July, where Monyamane was elected on the Social Development portfolio.

She was elected member of the provincial legislature (MPL) during the ANC regional and provincial conferences held recently, coming from the regional executive committee as the deputy
secretary.

Monyamane was elected alongside other 15 MPLs.

The other 15 MPLs elected for different portfolios hail from different districts in the province.

The sitting also elected MEC for Treasury, Seaparo Sekoati as the leader of Government Business.

The spokesperson for the ANC Parliamentary Caucus, Phuti Lekganyane, said the elected individuals have been chosen based on their experience, and also factoring in issues such as continuity,
youth and gender parity, geographical spread and the broader Tripartite Alliance.

“With the configurations of these committees, the ANC endeavours oversight to be robust, diligent,” Lekganyane said.

He added that in addition to the composition of the Standing and Portfolio Committees that were announced in the sitting of Thursday, 11 July, other internal arrangements were also announced.

The arrangements include other members who were elected on other committees, with former CoGHSTA MEC Jerry Ndou elected to oversee the Programming Committee and the Disciplinary Committee.
