Call for Modi-Mookgophong awards entries

Entries for the inaugural Modi-Mookgophong Music Awards (MMA) are currently open until Friday, 13 September.

To be eligible for these awards, artists must have commercially-released their music between January 2018 and 26 July 2019.

Only artists who reside in Modimolle or Mookgophong will be eligible for entry into the MMA’s.

Artists can enter by sending their songs or mix tapes by sending an email to annualmmas@gmail.com or by sending Whatsapp on 082 308 9683.

Co-founder of the awards, Shawn Moropa of Mookgophong, urged the wannabe entrants to include all the information, including their contact details when they submit their entries.

“Music ought to be accompanied by the artist’s biography, photographs, specific category they entering for, music release date and the artist’s contact details,” he said.

As a co-founder, Moropa works alongside other talented local artists, such as Bob Kekana, Timothy Malatji, Sean Ngobeni and Tlhologelo Mahlatlole.

Moropa is also the director of a Mookgophong-based film production company, Final Scene.

He told The BEAT this initiative serves to recognise local talent, and to open up opportunities for upcoming artists to reach their potential.

“There’s so much content that is being produced everyday by local artists, but their hard work is not recognised. We believe that these awards will play a huge role in motivating our artists, and to also build their profile as they strive for success in the music industry,” he said.
