A unique donkey-cart tourism initiative in the township in Bela-Bela recently sprang to life, bringing scores of foreign tourists into the dusty streets.

MCourt Tours head, Semakaleng Mothapo, said on Monday 8 July his company managed to take a total of 53 tourists into the township, thanks to active support and information-sharing by ATKV Klein Kariba Resort.

The tourists, from the People’s Republic of China, Australia and Angola, were on holiday at the resort, when they were taken to the township.

“I had the opportunity to link up with the tourists through ATKV Klein Kariba Resort,” she explained.

Mothapo said she personally became the tour guide, transporting the tourists on his customised donkey-cart, and also taking them on a walkabout through the streets of the township.

In the streets the tourists had fun, playing with children.

The tour culminated in a mini music festival at the township’s Lehlabile Recreation Park.

Mothapo said MCourt would continue to engage game lodges across the Waterberg, to sell the idea of township tourism.

In-between driving the township tourism initiative, Mothapo also teaches English and computer literacy in the township in Bela-Bela.
