Gruesome discovery

A platteland jogger stumbles into human skull

An unnamed jogger made the gruesome discovery of a human skull, bones and a boot and belt on Saturday 13 July.

The jogger was running through game farmlands outside of Bela-Bela when he made the discovery on the premises of the Marulani Game Lodge.

The Marulani Game Lodge from which the discovery was made, was swift to squash possible links between the discovery of the human remains, and a missing Ivorian guard employed on the farm in recent weeks.

Lodge owner Nico Williams said contact had since been made with security guard Julien Tienouhi Zehondi, who he said had been deported back to his home country, the Ivory Coast.

The BEAT had reported in recent weeks about the mysterious disappearance of Zehondi, who had gone missing since Saturday 9 March.

The 58-year-old Zehondi was at the time of his disappearance stationed at the IFSO security firm at Marulani Game Lodge.

Bela-Bela police spokesperson, Sergeant Frans Maponya, said on Monday 15 July that investigators were busy determining the identity of the human remains through DNA tests.

Williams confirmed Marulani Game Lodge kept potentially dangerous animals, such as leopards, but it was too early for any speculation about the cause of death.

He said the lodge could not link up the boot and belt found next to the remains with anyone on the game farm.
