provinces including in the Mookgophong in Limpopo, voters have been warned to abide by the electoral act or face criminal charges.

The by-elections will be held on 7 August in Mookgophong, with local residents expected to queue at the BB Matlaila Primary School, Mookgophong Primary School and Fire Gospel Centre.

The electoral commission has reminded voters that they are only allowed to register and vote in wards which they reside in.

According to the IEC, it is a criminal offence to register and vote in a ward in which you do not reside.

The upcoming by-election in Mookgophong comes as a direct result of a resignation by former ANC councillor, Sarah Monyamane, who has since been sworn in as a member of the provincial
legislature.

This development will see the town of Mookgophong become a political battleground, with parties including the ANC, DA and EFF expected to fight in the polls in a few weeks’ time.

The opening of nomination of candidates will be on Friday 5 July, with the cut-off date set for 15 July.

Those who wish to apply for casting a special vote can do so between 22 July and 26 July, with the special voting taking place on 6 August, a day prior to the main polls.

The special vote applications can be submitted by either going at www.elections.org.za, by SMSing your identity number to 32249 or by alternatively visiting the nearest IEC offices.
