Scores of aspirant writers were taken through a skills development workshop in Bela-Bela.

The workshop was facilitated by the Limpopo Department of Sports, Arts and Culture in the Bela-Bela Community Hall on Friday 7 June.

Wannabe word-artists were workshopped in the categories of poetry, long and short fiction, drama and folk storytelling.

Among the techniques the wannabe writers were exposed to, included how to draw the attention of the reader.

Participants were afforded the opportunity to ask questions and seek clarity on the workings of writing.

Many of the aspirant writers bemoaned lack of information and access to the publishing sector, and also access to book clubs.

Speaking on behalf of the Bela-Bela Local Municipality, David Raborolo from the Mayor’s Office encouraged participants to show more passion in their work.

Refilwe Seleka from the department’s Waterberg District encouraged participants to engage with local authorities.
