When the Makhae family in Modimolle invited locals for the elderly Morotho Annikie Makhae’s birthday celebration on Saturday 18 May, the response exceeded their wildest expectations when people from various spheres of the community came in large numbers.

Local artists were among those who volunteered their time and energy, to come and entertain guests at this event which was held at the Phomolong section of Modimolle.

Among the local entertainers were Makubenjalo Cultural Dance group, Dinaledi tsa setso, Dithakga tsa mmino and recording gospel artist Motheng Makhae also known as Motheng wa mo Afrika.

Paulinah Makhae, who is the youngest among her six siblings, said the most important reason why they organised the party was to celebrate and appreciate their mother.

“It is important to give thanks to our parents while they are still alive. We are what we are today because of her. For that reason, she deserves to be celebrated,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to the community of Modimolle for the love they have shown during the event.

“We did not anticipate such a huge response from the community. It shows that they also appreciate our senior citizens for the role they played in our lives,” she said.
