Residents of Extension 1 and Extension 4 in Mookgophong heaved a sigh of relief, when their RDP houses were fitted with flushing toilets and basins.

According to Mayor Marlene Van Staden, these residents had to rely on pit toilets since these RDP houses were built about ten years ago.

Van Staden said during the first phase of the project in 2017, about 1 300 households were connected.

On Monday 13 May the Mayor confirmed that the municipality has commenced with the second phase, and has already managed to connect 326 households.

The mayor anticipated that the project will be completed in six weeks, where a further 191 households were expected to be connected.

Van Staden also said that pit toilets posed a serious threat to the people of Mookgophong.

She further indicated that the municipality acquired services of locals to procure material, and also for the installation.

“I am happy with the progress to date and will be very excited when the project could be completed in the next six weeks,” she said.
