The Bela-Bela Local Municipality has fixed a traffic-calming hump across the railway line to the relief of, among others, taxi operators.

Road users have been complaining about the height of the hump, many fearing it had the potential to damage vehicles, especially at night.

On Monday 6 May municipal spokesperson, Kabelo Mosito, confirmed that the hump had been reconstructed to a lower level, as part of the town’s routine maintenance.

The hump across the railway line on the R101 was part of the refurbishment of the access road from the central business district into the township in Bela-Bela.

The completion of the new entrance was proudly opened officially by Bela-Bela Mayor Jeremiah Ngobeni at the end of last year.

The period of the fixing of the thoroughfare had triggered traffic logjams into and out of Bela-Bela, especially over long weekends.

Holidaymakers with vehicles hauling caravans had led to the long convoys. However, since the reopening of the road, traffic flows had eased up considerably.
