Pre-poll heating up

A shack dweller is in hot water for warming up with election posters as smaller parties raise a hand

Known and lesser known off-mainstream political parties have quietly entered the pre-election campaign space across the Waterberg.

Perhaps the most recognisable face is that of former Cape Town mayor and Democratic Party matriarch, Patricia de Lille, with her fledgling GOOD party finding pride of place on the lampposts.

The GOOD movement message to potential voters is “It’s Time To #FIXSA”.

Conspicuous in its absence from the lampposts is the re-invented Better Residents Association (BRA), which is arguably the most recognisable fringe political player in the region.

BRA secretary Joseph Makhubela told The BEAT in an interview on Tuesday 23 April, that party posters would be timed to go up a week before the national and provincial elections, on Wednesday 8 May.

The other more recognisable face on the posters is Themba Godi of the African People’s Convention (APC), better known as the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).

Hailing all the way from the Eastern Cape is General Bantu Holomisa, whose message is “Prosperity and Dignity for All”.

Yesteryear ANC breakaway, COPE, is also flying its flag high on the streets of the Waterberg, with a smiling party leader, Mosiuoa Lekota, with the message “South Africa Needs a Fresh Start”.

The Reverend Kenneth Meshoe of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) is sending out the clarion call to “Unite … Build … Grow”.

The Agang SA has also put up posters across the Waterberg, with the face of national leader, Andries Tlouamma, with the message “Building a Winning South Africa Together”.
