Modimolle-Mookgophong making progress

Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene Van Staden recently issued a statement on the progress achieved towards the improvement of the sewerage system in Modimolle.

Modimolle-Mookgophong Mayor Marlene Van Staden recently issued a statement on the progress achieved towards the improvement of the sewerage system in Modimolle.

Van Staden said hydro-jet was deployed to clean sewer lines in Van Riebeeck Street, Paul Kruger Street and Lillian Ngoyi Streets, and also the main line leading to the Modimolle waste water treatment plant.

“We have received encouraging reports that several blockages have been cleared. We have found that the lines are clogged with rocks, plastic bags and especially sand washed into the system by storm-water,” she said.

The mayor anticipated that the clearing of the lines will increase the volume and speed at which sewerage flows from downtown into the treatment plant.

The sewer-jetting truck was also dispatched to Mookgophong Extension 6, where residents have been experiencing problems with blocked sewerage.

She further indicated that a contract for the renovation of the waste water treatment plant in Mookgophong has been advertised.

In other developments in the area, the municipality, in collaboration with other stakeholders worked together to cut trees in farming areas, in a bid to resolve continuous electricity
interruptions.

The mayor said the municipality has also replaced one transformer and several electricity poles.
